okie dokie, i’m an avid journaler (though none of my friends actually ever see my journal because i’m not quite ready for the flow of can i sees) and my journal includes lots of artwork pages and writing and so i’ve decided to make a masterlist (well, not quite, mostly just a huggggge list of prompts and other stuff and tips) on journals and prompts for any kind of journaling.
journals
so you can either buy a journal and use it as is, or buy a notebook and decorate it, or you can be like me and just make it straight up on your own which i will detail how to do below:
1. basically you’re gonna need some paper (i prefer blank printer paper) of whatever is your preferred size, preferably in a good size like 8.5x11 or 5x7 or whatever; some black construction paper; and some poster board or other heavy type paper. also you’ll need glue and some binder clips and a heavy book, if you want. and masking tape.
2. you can go design a cover, i usually make a collage on picmonkey and size it correctly before printing out. make sure you leave a margin on the left for the binding. otherwise there’ll be an awkward side there.
3. make sure all your paper is cut to size and you have a good number like 50 or 100. if you’re like me and you like it to be all nice and fancy (well not really just cuter) you can use a stamp pad to color the edges of the paper. idk that’s just me.
4. stack all the paper up and clip it with some binder clips. then get some glue and paint it all along one side so your paper will start sticking together (ish). use lots of glue!! it sucks if your journal starts falling apart though you can always just tape the pages on the inside i guess. anyway, keep the clips on and stick the paper under some heavy books so all the glue has time to ooze around.
5. when it’s dry, get some masking tape and tape along the glued edge so all the pages are taped together.
6. now get your cover and trim it to size and glue it on top of one of the cardstocks (which should be trimmed to size btw). let the full cover dry under some books too so it dries flat. if you want a nice glossy touch to both sides and a more lacquered feel i guess you can mix glue and water in a 3:1 ratio and paint it over but tbh i do that last.
7. clip the covers on each side of the paper and tape it with some masking tape, then cut a stripe of black construction paper to size and wrap it around the binding of the paper and glue it in place. now is the best time to cover the thing in glue and water but this is all a personal choice.
8. yeah that’s basically it.
prompt jars
i keep a prompt jar which is really helpful for keeping prompts, and basically i just reach in and pull out a slip of paper and boom. so this can be anything, usually a mason jar or whatever, but i use an old hot chocolate tin coloured to look like a TARDIS ^u^

I finally managed to acquire a poncho in the style of the ones my characters in my comic wear and these are the first in a series of studies of it I’m making. Ponchos are very unusual and it’s wonderful that I no longer have to guess how they look if I’m caught with a strange pose.
Let’s kick this off with some recent portfolio work! Hi all and welcome. I’ll be using this to post daily sketches and finished art work. Feel free to ask me anything you’d like and thanks for stopping by!
